11-5 Middlesex beats Surrey!
| Middlesex flag (Photo credit: Wikipedia) |
Dear All,
I am pleased to say that Middlesex won their SF encounter
against Surrey 11-5 and as a result make it to a 3rd successive final the
first time they have done so since the captaincy of R, Jennings
in 1987. Result here: http://www.englishchess.org. uk/county-champs-final-stage- results-20132014/ A
more comprehensive match report will be on the usual sites.
The final result is surprising as par score based on team averages was 8-8.
That Surrey were tonked is great result as it means Middlesex have now
beaten their greatest rivals in three of the last four encounters; we
will be looking to make it a 4/5 when the two meet in the opening match of the
2013-14 SCCU cycle, more of that in due course.
We now go on to meet Yorkshire in the Final.
You should all have the date and details of the Final in your diary
but just to remind:
Match - ECF Final
Date - 12th July 2014
Venue - The Trident Centre, Warwick CV34 6SW
Start time usually 1pm will confirm once Controller advises about
arrangements for Finals Day
Time Control - 40moves in 2h + 30minutes QPF

Under 140? Your County Needs You!

Lancashire v Middlesex u-140
quarter final Sunday 18th May
We are looking for 3 players to make up our team for the 1/4 final against Lancashire on Sunday 18th May, 13.00 at
East Midlands Bridge Centre,
The Old School (it really is an old school)
Chapel Street (number 51 I think)
Spondon
Derby
Derbyshire
DE21 7JR
Travel: we have booked a 15-seater minibus which will be leaving from Gloucester Place near Dorset Square (halfway between Baker Street and Marylebone stations) at 10.00. One of our players is driving both ways (but cannot offer lifts) so we have space for all the team. Cost per player: anything from zero to about £20: it's up to you.
Time control is our usual 35/105 + 30q, so we'll be finished by 17.30 at the latest and driving straight back to London (with a break). The journey time should be 2 hours or so.
If you would prefer to make your own way let me know.
If you are graded under 140 in the July 2013 list and are an ECF member, you are eligible to play. Looking forward to hearing from you!
